the typography handbook

book design

The type and layout workshops were designed to teach me how to layout and use type by creating a handy booklet which would aid me in future projects. The brief asked for me to outline all of the rules of typography in an interesting and quirky way. I decided to include the information, but in small amounts, and fun experiments to relay the information in a more interesting way. I used a consistent colour palette of blue and white, creating backgrounds on alternate pages. I tried to make the front cover more fun but overlaying text to spell out all of the rules. I also created a poster on the back cover which says 'Rules can be broken but never ignored', which I found related very well to how type can be used.
